When contemplating a new golf course project or existing golf course renovation/restoration, there is no more important decision to be made than the hiring of an experienced and innovative golf course architect.

His experience as the Senior Design Associate with Nicklaus Design includes working on USGA Major Championship venues such as Shoal Creek, Sebonack and Pinehurst #2.  Jim was also the lead designer in the creation of the new 5th Hole at Pebble Beach for the 2000 US Open.

Jim's expertise has impacted every level of championship level golf, as he was the lead designer on many PGA Tour, LPGA Tour, European Tour and PGA Champions Tour tournament courses. These include Castle Pines GC, TPC/Michigan, The Club at Snoqualmie Ridge, Superstition Mountain, St. Mellion CC, Gut Altentann CC, Travis Pointe CC, Tahoe Mountain Club, Las Colinas CC, Montreux CC, and Great Waters GC.

In addition, Jim was the lead designer on many renowned resort courses such as Cabo Del Sol, Palmilla, Las Iquanas, Puerto Los Cabos, El Dorado, Quivira, Old Lighthouse Club, Moonlight Basin and Punta Mita, as well as numerous high end residential development courses including The May River Club, Mayacama CC, Desert Mountain Chiricahua, Spring Creek Ranch, Carlton Woods CC, Governors Club, Pinehurst National, and Las Campanas CC.

ABOUT JIM LIPE

With over 50 years in the golf course design field taking him to 5 continents and 18 countries around the world, Jim offers design services to select clients through his golf course architectural firm, Jim Lipe Design, Incorporated.

While continuing to work alongside Jack Nicklaus as his Senior Design Associate, for the last 38 years, Jim has also worked on his own Signature course designs, which include collaborative projects with PGA tour greats, David Toms, JJ Henry and Hal Sutton.

Presently, Jim’s select clients benefit from his vast industry experience, as he has faced design and construction challenges at all levels of terrain, construction styles, environmental obstacles and geographical limitations.  Jim’s seniority in the industry provides his clients the security and confidence that their project, with its unique issues and challenges, will be met with the highest level of design innovation and expertise available.

Jim is a golf architect with a unique blend of an education (BS Business Administration/MLA Masters Landscape Architecture) and over 50 years of experience in design and construction. He also has a strong background as a highly competitive golfer, competing in numerous USGA National tournaments. Jim is also a two time Louisiana State Senior Amateur Champion. He has an innate knowledge of the strategic importance in quality design and a strong passion for working in the field during construction on the subtle details and nuances that give his golf courses extraordinary visual and strategic character.

Working with golf's top names to produce courses of the highest quality in the world, Jim’s skill and reputation in golf course design and construction is unsurpassed. His being selected a Fellow in the American Society of Golf Course Architects is representative of his achievements in the industry.
